My Wee Man, (7 year old with autism), also joined in with the ICAD challenge and ended up creating Fifty amazing index art cards. I am hoping to share them all on here, but I have a few technical issues to deal with first.
In the meantime, I would like to share my newest page for The Craft Barn's latest challenge. The words to choose from this time are Mind and/or Ignorance. We are to use one or both of the words with a quote or a lyric. I chose the word Mind and used a quote.
This quote is a great support to me when Wee Man is having a particularly bad time in public. It doesn't happen very often, but when he does, the reactions of people can be enough to make one despair for lack of human understanding and compassion. Something else I was once told is to look at 'these people' and ask myself three questions: Do I know them? Am I likely to come across them again? Do they mean anything to me? And if the answer to them all is, No, then s*d them. Their ignorance is their own shame.
*Stepping off my soapbox* and back to my page - I simply used distress paints through three stencils and some washi tapes. I love the book one :D Many thanks for looking.
Until next time............
...........thanks for popping by to say 'Hi' ((hugs))
Good to see your post as there have been two posts in the last two days with no content.
ReplyDeleteFabulous page for the 15th Q&L Challenge, loving the stencils and the quote:-) xxx
Many thanks for your comment :D
DeleteSorry for the confusion about the posts I'm trying to se up a new page. So very frustrating, lol
:D
This is a wonderful quote for your situation. I can't begin to understand what you are going through, although I have known a few people in the workforce with autism. They are extremely hard workers, with much attention to detail. Other things can be overlooked. Praise can help, but often it falls on deaf ears.
ReplyDeleteI hope your situation improves, and I really think you are going to have to set up a new blog for wee man if you want to write posts. Then you could link it to your blog sidebar, and put a link in your blog post every time you update his posts.
Bless you Elizabeth for trying to help this numbskull with the blog 'thing'. I have decided to adjust my blog for Wee Man to use alongside me.
DeleteThank you for your comment on my quote :D
Great post, and lovely work for the challenge. What you have written is so true. What ignorant people think is not important. I used to teach at a school for kids with multiple disabilities and know the disgusting way some 'normal' people used to react. Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie for your support and your lovely comment on my page - look out for Wee Man's first post, perhaps on Sunday
Delete((hugs)) x
Love all the stencilling and the colours. Great quote too, and so true.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Kaybee :D
DeleteIt's a great quote! Love your multi-layered background.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :D
DeleteThank you too for trying to help with the 'new page thingy'. I've decided to adjust my blog for Wee Man to use it alongside me instead. Look out for his first posting perhaps on Sunday :D
Love that stencil work. They are so much fun. You are so right, people don't understand. Hopefully and I know it is slow going... we are changing and judging less. Others never really know what we are going through or experiencing... I know I am guilty of forgetting that. Tell Wee Man, I'm very impressed that he made 50 ICADs!!!! That is a huge accomplishment for a 7 year old... Heck it would be a big one for this 60 year old. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Boo for your loving support and wonderful words :D I agree that there is change and it is slow going, but it is happening for sure :D
DeleteI try to discourage Wee Man from discussing his elders ages, he has a 'thing' about asking everyone, so I tell him it's not polite, especially, to ask ladies. Lol But if he does ever ask your age, I will tell him that you did tell me first, lol
And I will of course pass on your compliment for his efforts tho' ((hugs)) x
You never need to apologise for getting on your soap box Mo. I worked for the Disability Rights Commission for many years and I totally agree with what you are saying, as I have witnessed much of the same attitude as you have! That quote is perfect for this discussion! Love your page too! Big hugs, Anne xx
ReplyDeleteBless you Anne, thank you so much for your support and encouraging words ((hugs)) xox
DeleteWhat a brilliantly personal quote. I cannot add anything to what has been said above but I hope your creativity helps ease the frustration felt in the face of ignorant people.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your kind words :D
DeleteI enjoyed your 'Englishman in New York' page :D
Sometimes your need to get on your "soap box" Ignorance can be hurtful, but you are right and your quote so true.
ReplyDeleteLove the colours you have used, a great page.
Many thanks Julie ;)
DeleteI love your windmill take on the theme :D
Super quote, Mo! You are so right. I also learned not to listen to the "wrong" people. Nice page, that washi tape fits perfectly into that stencil work. Good collage!
ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed your and Wee Man´s work during the ICAD challenge. You are doing such a great job with him! I think you are blessed to have each other. It warms my heart to see that.
Hugs
Gabriele
Thank you very much Gabriele :D It's a lonng way from your amazing collage, but it was fun to do and get 'painty' ((hugs))
DeleteYou are on the right track. Keep on going :-D
DeleteWhat a fab and personal page. The quote is so true :)
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :D I love your very romantic 'mind' page :D
DeleteI have always loved this quote, and I love it paired with all the color and texture of your page! I was impressed before with the beautiful art Wee Man was creating and keeping up with all the challenges. I am even more impressed now--50 ICADs! I tried this challenge a few years ago and could not keep up, so I salute you Wee Man!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind comment, and Wee Man says, 'Thank you very much. Big hugs from Wee Man" :-D
DeleteI love your 'translation' of David for your ATC this time around. It is fantastic! :o))
That's a great page, fantastic background and colors.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sylvia - I love the quote you used on your fab page :o)
DeleteI like the colorful background and the quote is so true. I love how you call your grandson wee man.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your comment on my 'Mind' post And for your lovely comment on Wee Man's post too, but you will get a reply from him separately :-D I really like your Imagination page - I need to practice collage more, but generally avoid it :o))
DeleteA sentiment I should follow. Lovely page.
ReplyDeleteThank you Fiona. I like your hot air balloon page :o)
DeleteWords we could all live by! Most spend to much time and energy on what other think. My hats off to you Mo, always.x As usual I love your layering in your art.
ReplyDeleteA very appropriate quote and one I had forgotten. As you say s*d 'em! Sadly there is so little compassion and empathy around these days. xx
ReplyDeleteMany thanks. I pray that one day it will change :o)
DeleteI love that quote - I should bear it in mind more often in daily life! Great background too. xx
ReplyDeleteThank you very much :o)
DeleteA great choice of quote on your lovely colourful background.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Maggie.
DeleteI love both of your pieces, especially the wee birdies :D
