Calendar Challenge

The prompts for our April page in The Craft Barn's calendar challenge are Blue and Umbrellas.

I used a wee umbrella stencil through which I smooshed my Cotton Candy blue gelato with my finger.

I flicked on some raindrops using my white Wink of Stella and then stencilled April with a silver pen.

The quote is by Roger Miller, written with a silver pen.

Q&L Challenge number 25

Wow, I can't believe we are at the end of The Craft Barn's Quotes & Lyrics challenge! The year seems to have gone by ever so fast don't you think?! I am very happy that I managed to complete every challenge, albeit by the skin of my teeth occasionally, but I did it! *Grin*

Many thanks to everyone at The Craft Barn for hosting this interesting challenge and to all those who visited me and left such lovely comments for me, they were all very much appreciated. Thank you! ((Group Hugs))  

So, back to this week, and the final words we have, are Harmony and/or Faith and as with every other week, we are to use a Quote and/or a Lyric in our work. 

The theme over at Tag Tuesday is Christmas Angels and as time is at a premium for all of us at this time of year, I figured I could use my quote on a tag and double up with both of my challenges.

I painted a Christmas tree using green acrylic paints, edged the tag with red and created a star with silver Wink of Stella. I drew the angel, coloured her with pencils and fussy cut her out. I wrote the quote by Doug Floyd,  You don't get Harmony when everybody sings the same note, onto some white card, cut it out and edged it with green. 

I am looking forward to finding out what The Craft Barn's new challenge will be, in January. I hope you will join in too.

Q & L Challenge number 23

The words from The Craft Barn this fortnight are Journey and Friendship. I can hardly believe we're almost at the end of this year long challenge; I wonder what's in store for us next ;)

For this time, I chose to use Journey and have made a one line drawing; not a thousand miles long, but then I doubt I would have had enough ink for that, (hehe) ;)

I used distress inks for the colouring and the stickers are from a chit-chat pack I have and I hand wrote the words I don't have stickers for. The quote, The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, is by Lao Tzu, who was a philosopher and poet of ancient China.

Summer of Colour Week Six and Craft Barn Quotes & Lyrics Week 14

My piece today is done on an index card because I have been taking part in the Index Card A Day, (ICAD), challenge on Facebook and today's prompt was 'Darla Horse'; and with Kristin's colour palette of Raspberry, Tangerine and a Smudge, Splash or Pop of Lemon for week six of the Summer of Colour being posted, I thought that I would combine the two.
Furthermore, the new words at the Craft Barn for the Quotes & Lyrics challenge were posted on Sunday, and they are Imagination and/or Logic, so I thought - go for it - make it a triple hitter! So I did **grin**

A Darla Horse, made from wood, has become a symbol of authentic Swedish handicraft and one of Sweden's most popular souvenirs.

Mine is much more simplistic

I traced the outline image off the internet, then coloured with watercolour paints and outlined with a black micron. The colours seemed to weaken the longer they sat, but they had looked pretty much right, to my eye, when I first mixed them *sigh*. My pop of lemon is the eye, nostril, flowers and some wee dots at the ankles; the 'raspberry' and 'tangerine' are the stripes. This is the final week of Summer of Colour and I would like to say thank you to Kristin for hosting this event again, for the fourth year, (my first), and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope to participate again next year. 

The words popped into my head and I think them fitting as I often look back at what I have created and think, 'if only I had done this or that, or not done the other' and I need to learn to let it go. I used Imagination as my word of choice for the Q&L challenge hosted by The Craft Barn. For those that can't read my chicken scratch, my quote says, 'don't let your imagination keep you in the past with 'if onlys' but let it forge ahead with limitless possibilities'.  

I'm sure someone will have said them before, tho' not necessarily in that order, lol :D

The Craft Barn's Q & L Challenge #10 Passion & Music and an Art Folder

The words for the challenge this time around are Passion & Music.  To see the DTs samples and other fabulous entries please visit The Craft Barn.

I knew what I wanted to do for this piece but needed to find a quote that fit.  I found a quote, but it doesn't have any attribution.  There are variations of it, but I prefer what I used ~ 'Passion Propels Your Dreams'.  I think that is lovely quote, and very true.

I got my inspiration from Bibi and all the stamps I used are from Rubber Dance; a new company, with beautifully detailed, deep etched stamps, in red rubber.

I did my background with Neocolor 2s and smooshed with a baby wipe.  After trying Bibi's 'easy face-lift technique', (which I've found isn't quite as successful as it was with the distress inks that Bibi used), I coloured most of the stamped areas with colouring pencils.

Now if you recall this post where I shared my wee boys detailed drawing of, Granny in the Garden, I would now like to share with you the ring binder we bought and decorated yesterday, to keep his art works safe.

We used Stayzon to stamp the VW campers, (we haven't found a proper bus stamp yet), and he stamped his name himself using my wee alphabet stamps.  He has developed an admiration for dogs, but at a distance, and he loves spotted things, hence the choice of stickers used.  He took this up to bed with him last night so that he could look at it this morning when he woke. Awww.

Edited: Thank you to all who commented or emailed me about a bus stamp.  Who knew there were so many out there!?  But the wee fella has chosen and our order has been sent.  So it'll be bus stamping in my near future I think :)
