T Stands for..........

.............. brown water. Yuck!! We have brown water. And we will have brown water for the next ten days! The local water board are doing 'essential maintenance' in our area, (starting last night - Monday), and they have warned us - at least they warned us - that it will result in our having brown water until the work is completed. Well, it's not strictly Brown water, but that awful peaty, sandy colour and it tastes awful too.

Sooo, I got all my washing (laundry) up-to-date and have stockpiled bottled water. And in order to save some pennies I also filled available jugs, reusable water bottles and flasks etc whilst the water was still clear. I will still be able to do the washing - just not my whites, and we can still shower - no bathing in 'brown' water, but the kettle won't be on near as much as usual and the cafe's in town will have more than my usual custom.  But as contradictory as it may sound, I am actually not making a big 'thing' of it; as a long time supporter of Water-Aid I am very grateful that we have clean water 99% of the time. The only reason I'm mentioning it here, is so that I can wish my fellow T-ers over on Elizabeth's blog, a Happy T Day.

Until next time................
.............thanks for popping by to say 'Hi' ((hugs)) :o) x

  3. We often don't appreciate how available water is (most of the time) for us, but water is hard to come by in some places, and clean water sometimes impossible. Charities like Water-Aid do such good work! I hope your water situation is back to normal soon!

  4. Since we have wells in my area, this is not a problem I have experienced since I was a kid and lived in a big city. I do remember what a pain it can be--and you were so smart being prepared like that! Happy T Day!

  5. Hello and Happy T Day, or for you water day. Good thing you stocked up on plenty of water to see you through 10 days. It is something we shouldn't take for granted, thankful for our water. My daughter who is on a mission trip had no running water this month where she is. They had to walk a long ways to get water from a well and a creek nearby for a quick dip and to wash clothes in. So she reminded me plenty to be thankful for running clean water.
You left a question about the scrap mail that I received. It was mailed just like it shows, no envelope or anything. She put two stamps on it and it no problems getting it here. I was surprised too, so cool. If I do get the chance to make some, I will post them for you to see.
    Have a wonderful week!

  6. Oh what a shame Mo but at least they did warn you! I think you can get water purifying tablets quite reasonably from places like Boots and outdoor clothing shops, if you are in any way worried about using it to make tea......! Hugs, Anne xx

  7. Funny how we take things for granted, like clean running water, until we don't have access to it for a while. When I was a kid, we would lose our power, once in a while, and that meant the well pump would quit too. Many times we would melt ice cube to be able to wash our hands, or make a pot of coffee (we had a gas stove....grin)
Good job on getting some clean water stored up.
    Happy T-day

  8. An absolutely perfect post for T this week. I can remember when our entire town had green water. It was due to algae and it tasted like it, too. I couldn't believe that we, the largest city in the state, couldn't provide clean drinkable water to us. It lasted a mere two days before they got it cleaned and filtered, but I remember it very well.

Thanks for sharing your plight and stirring old memories for T this Tuesday.

  9. Well indeed, brown water sounds yucky...but you are being a good sport about it. And you're right, we are so lucky to have clean water most of the time. When our water heater went out recently, we had RED water flushing through our pipes, because of the rusty hard water, so I am glad we are back to normal now with a new water heater! Happy T day to you too!

  15. So nice they warned you! Usually when it happens here you find out by turning on the faucet to no water! Glad it's not as bad as you feared. We were out recently due to a break down the road, thankfully it was only for the day but, it does remind you how fortunate we are to have running water at our finger tips most of the time. I remember my grandmother saying how when she was growing up they took "showers" under the eves of the house when it rained in the summer time! Brrrrrrrrr (We're so spoiled!) ;D
