I am participating in this colourful challenge, hosted by Kristin Van Valkenburgh of Twinkle Twinkle Like a Star blog. This is her fourth year of hosting the challenge and my first time of taking part. Each week Kristin will give us a colour prompt with which we have to create something. Anything; from painting, to papier mache, to knitting with old carrier bags. Anything goes, so long as we use only the colours in the prompt, and, if we wish, black & white.
The colours this first week are, Aqua Blue & Yellow and a Smudge Splash or Pop of Hot Pink
I went blank. Completely and utterly blank. I love the colour combo. Not a problem with that. My brain just seemed to close down. I know I've got a week for this, but if I leave it, I know I will just feel worse.
Get a grip!!
I got out my sketchbook, my oil pastels and went for it. *Eeek!* What a mess I thought. I was going to scrap it and try to do something 'better'. Something more in line, (yeah right), with the lovelies I had already been looking at, so quickly posted, but so perfect. In my eyes.
Sod this, I thought! I enjoyed scribbling away with the pastel, rubbing my fingers in it and scratching away with a broken gift card to make water, fish, birds & clouds! So what if it's not my idea of 'perfect'!? Just post it and move on!
So here it is.
Until next time, if you'd like to view some colourful loveliness, visit here..............
.............. and thanks for popping by to say 'Hi' *hugs*
Aww it's a sweet painting - don't be so hard on yourself.
ReplyDeleteMo, your doodling & scratching are fantastic, very raw & just what you needed to draw, this is being in the moment & going with your flow, what could be more perfect than that:-) xxx
ReplyDeleteLove your doodling and scratching. That is a great title for your piece. I like it!
ReplyDeleteWell your ahead of me! Lovely doodle Mo....
ReplyDeleteDelightful!
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful, love what you have made! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteWe are often our own worst critics. I know, because I feel like I never make anything good enough, especially when I see something as lovely as you make. So Mo, pat yourself on the back, take a deep breath, and appreciate that you did a fantastic job for your first ever SOC entry!!
ReplyDeleteso nice ... love this!

I wasn't going to look at any other entries until I've come up with something but... Love this, well done. for the page, for the quick entry and for doing it. Now, if I could tell myself the same thing....
ReplyDeleteWell done for battling through and coming up with the goods. Super composition.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean Mo about going blank. I was really excited about the colour choice over at Mix it Monthly one month but went totally blank when I came to putting something down on paper. This fits the brief perfectly.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! If everyone waited until perfection came along, nothing would ever get done. We'd still be living in caves. I say, "Go for it." Some day you'll look back at your image and it will inspire something you really love.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteNot sure I'd be able to knit old carrier bags (although I have quite a stash) so I'm relieved that we have all the other options! ;D
I'm excited about this...so hopefully I'll be linking up soon.
Love your boat and if it's any consolation I never like ANYTHING I do...I think we're our own worst critics.
I've come to the conclusion it's about the journey not the destination and if you have fun along the way then it's a win win situation.
Have a terrific Tuesday xoxo
Hugs to you, too! I love what you did using the SOC colors! Fantastic work!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou did make me smile because I never like anything I make! I like your spirit and I like your drawing very much Mo. I just wish I could apply your current thinking to what I do........ Hugs, Anne xx
ReplyDeleteLOL. I must be the exception to the rule. I am always amazed at my artsy creations. My first thought is, Wow, I made that! I guess I just have too much confidence. If Picasso could do what he did and everyone likes it, then I am going to love my work too. You keep on painting and crafting and have FUN. Nice boat.
ReplyDeleteNo need to stress this if fun stuff lol!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS SO MUCH FUN!
ReplyDeleteOh this is just right, the little SOC boat is speeding along, and what an amusing blogpost, I loved it all.
ReplyDeleteI'm sat here laughing, reading your blog post is better than reading any magazine or newspaper. Love your grit determination missus xxx
ReplyDeleteNice use of oil pastels...I have no skill with them at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely and very soothing! I've been playing more with pastels lately-fun:)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a lot of fun making this, that's what it's all about really! BJ
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time participating and I had all the same challenges are you did meeting this challenge, too. In the end, my result was eh, but I did use the colors and that makes me proud!
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely take on the theme Twinkle!
ReplyDeleteOh Twinkle this is lovely and very soothing!

Yes :) It's just right on and so cute
ReplyDeleteah this is so sweet :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for your lovely comments Mo. I love your piece, it has so much energy with the boat speeding along. We are sometimes our own worst critic, so good for you for not sucumbing to bining it. A really fun little sketch.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought when I saw this was the Beatle's song "We all live in a yellow submarine" but then I noticed the smoke-stack. Love this!
ReplyDeleteHuGGs!
Debi
I think it's awesome!
ReplyDeleteLovely work!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it's speeding along to the next week's colours. Love the energy in this ....
ReplyDeleteI am very late getting my entry in and purposely avoided seeing any other entries as I just knew it would influence me and get in my head. Am now trying to speed round you all before tomorrow... Reckon I could do with your fast, colourful and speedy looking boat :-D
ReplyDeleteCreating under pressure is no easy fete, and as always you come through with flying colors! (You are as always TOO hard on your art work.) xoxo
