Red & Royal Blue with a Smudge, Splash or Pop of Light Blue.
I had a rake through my stamps and came up with a very simple idea.
I used the Road Map, stamped just four times, from Rubber Dance with a red pigment ink and then added clear embossing powder, heating to melt it, and then painted over with the royal blue from my Koh-I-Noor tier set. While that was drying I stamped the word Souvenir, from the same stamp set, in light blue ink, clear embossed it and then painted over with the royal blue on that as well. I thought the embossing would act as a total resist, but I think the pigment in my paint maybe so strong it has colourised the red slightly. Perhaps. I don't know. But I am disappointed that the red has ended up looking slightly pink. Hey-ho :)

thanks for popping by to say 'Hi' *hugs*
I noticed my red ended up looking more pink than red, too, but I was certainly impressed with your entry this week. I could not believe that was a STAMP. And then heat embossed. How very clever of you. I really LIKE this entry, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteBTW, now that SOC is nearly over, I remember last year, when I couldn't respond to your art because I wasn't on Flickr. SO, SO glad you have your lovely blog, now.
Thank you so very much Elizabeth (hug), You never fail to make me feel better about what I've created. I am very glad I now have my blog and you can visit.
DeleteI love your abstract poppies :D
That is one amazing stamp, very cool look indeed! Beautiful page, word is perfect for it.
ReplyDeleteRed is an awkward colour to use at the best of times, i think you have done brilliantly:-) xxx
Thank you MoH, you are very kind. It is a lovely clear stamp to use. I love the squares you used and hope to see them again when you use them :o)
DeleteI think this color combo together tends to go pink or purple. Mine did that too. Looks like you had fun with this. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Gemma, it was fun, I love watching the EP melting and going shiny :D I love your Gaudi window :D
DeleteHa ha!!! Found your blog! So glad there's some place to come visit. Love what you did with the map. It's a hard colour palette and you've come up trumps! Jenny x
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Jenny, I'm so happy to have you visit :o) x
DeleteI like the colors. Red or not, it looks great!
ReplyDeletegloria
Thank you so much Gloria. I'm cheering Loretta to the finish line :o)
Deletelovely piece you made with the road stamp. I thought it was an actual map at first.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Tammie Lee :o)
DeleteOh, this is SO cool! I would never have thought of using the road map stamp that way. Thank you for using my stamps and making them look this GREAT!!
ReplyDeleteXOX, Bibi from Rubber Dance
Hi Bi :D Thanks for popping in and I'm so happy you like what you see. They are lovely stamps to work with :o) xox
Deletexo
ReplyDeleteThank you for the challenge Kristin, quite a challenge for me this week, but not for others. Swing and roundabouts eh? Hope you are having a good week :o)
DeleteGreat idea, I am still trying to think what I might do! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThank you Valerie, I look forward to seeing what you do :o) x
DeleteI'm brain dead this morning (although some would say 'what's new'?) so I haven't come up with an ingenious design like you yet.
ReplyDeleteI really hope to enter this week...ahh!
Thanks for sharing and helping inspire ;D
Have a fantastic day and hopefully the sun will be with you...cos it's not here! xoxo
Thank you Denise, you are always so generous, tho' not to yourself! 'Brain dead' lol, but I do admit to being a little fuzzy myself, too many late nights. Not really a good idea on school holibobs when entertainment is the leader - ugh, lol. A little sun here, but due to disappear soonfor some 'much needed' rain *sigh* Hope it shines on you and yours :o) *hugs* xx
DeleteWhat a clever idea to use the embossing as a resist! Love this Mo. I'm totally fascinated with maps. I delighted myself last week by learning how to a map fold - for some reason it was more complicated than I thought. Which probably explains why I shouldn't be allowed to re-fold maps tidily. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Deborah :D Well you know more than I, I didn't know there was a special way to fold a map, lol :D
DeleteIt is so annoying when colours do not do what we expect but I think you have done a brilliant job Mo! I love, love that stamp and you have used it so well to create your beautiful background and it was clever of you to emboss to create the resist too! Love it. Hugs, Anne xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Anne, I really appreciate your words of encouragement. I'm glad I'm finally learning the odd thng or two as I go along, lol ((hugs)) :o) xx
Deletea very creative idea-good job for the SOC challenge!
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly Linda :D
DeleteWhat a great idea. That road map really made the trick.
ReplyDeleteThank you kindly Laila :D I enjoyed seeing your 'grandmother's jam & cordial :o)
DeleteHope you are getting my comments Mo, things keep disappearing. I'm impressed with what you have done here. Don't think I've seen it done before. Isn't it effective xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Lynn, it's a real pest when comments disappear and then you forget what you said in the first place. Well I do, lol. But I think I have got all yours, and thank you very much for your love and support. I can't remember where I saw this resist tchnique first time, but certainly lots of times since, I've just not used it before. It's quite useful. xoxox
DeleteI love your use of the colors. Great idea.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. Your patriotic girl is very pretty :o)
DeleteWhat a great idea! I'm not familiar with that line of paint, but if they are watercolours I would try burnishing the embossed bits with a dry cloth once completely dry. It shouldn't hurt your background but should take away any bits of stray paint from the embossed areas. If they're acrylics that's another story.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the advice Cindy. They are water colours and so it looks much brighter and as one lovely person put it, like a city at night sen from an aeroplane :D
Deletegreat idea!
ReplyDeleteThank you Christine :o) I think your nightscape is fabuolous :o)
DeleteThat's such a clever technique, love the way you've used the colours, looks really cool :o)xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you Annie, you are very kind. I so enjoyed visiting and seeing your very beautiful page and the newest glam snail :o))
DeleteGood idea, and an effective result, I like the colours used this way.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sheila :o))
DeleteI think your page was so much fun, even tho' you do not like this weeks palette :o)
WOW! I love what you did with the road map and how you created this work of art with this week's colors! So creative!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sharon - I love your patriotic layout :o)
DeleteThis looks great! I really thought this was scrapbookpaper. Looks very professional ... And I must say that I like that slightly pinkish red. Those colours really fit well together!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much denthe, I'm happy you like what I did. Your piece is fantastic as always. I do dwonder f you will get to use your oranges ;)
Deleteit sounds like a lot of work. I actually think the pink works with the blue. if it's red, it might be too much of a contrast as you know, red and blue together is hard on the eye.
ReplyDeletehave a wonderful day.
thank you lissa, it is supposed to be red. Maybe it wasn't vibrant enough :o)
DeleteYour mermaid is breathtaking :o)
Amazing....I just love how you used this color challenge!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ophelia. I love your design and the sentiment :o)
DeleteI think you've done an amazing job with this colour challenge and I think sometime the reds can have more of a pinkish colour depending on what paints/inks you use and how much pigment it has in it. Don't be disappointed be glad you did the challenge :) Thank you for your generous comment on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Anita :) I left another comment on your blog ((hugs))
DeleteDarn I just wrote a whole paragraph and then got an error message :(
ReplyDeleteAnyway I will try again - you shouldn't be disappointed you should be glad you finished the colour challenge. I found it really difficult as they're not colours I would normally work with.
This looks amazing! Such a great idea to emboss and use as a colour resist and just stamping the word souviner once gives it impact. No matter that the red turned pink.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Linda, I appreciate your comment. Your newest beach hut is another winner. And going by your icon, a fave palette of yours. Wonder what the last will be :o) xo
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for all your great comments Mo. In the past, the 7th week has been where we just show all 6 pieces together.
DeleteThis is so good!! I love how you used the road map, it gives it such an interesting look!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Caz, I appreciate your visit and I loved seeing your heARTy ATC :D
DeleteHi and thanks for stopping by at my blog! I've actually had the same thing happen sometimes - that embossing hasn't completely resisted what I painted over it. Nevertheless, your piece is super cool! Sometimes we must take surprises as they come, I guess, and try to appreciate them!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for your kind and encouraging words Salla :D
DeleteToo bad it didn't turn out like you expected but, I love it as is. :)) (you know me and pink) lol
