Tag Tuesday - Africa

For this weeks Tag Tuesday theme of, 'Africa', I used my inktense watercolour pencils and created a Djembe drum.

I play in a local group with some incredibly talented & inspiring women. The Djembe is a rope-tuned, skin-covered goblet drum played with bare hands originally from West Africa. According to the Bamana people in Mali, the name of the djembe comes from the saying, "Anke djé, anke bé" which tranlates to, "everyone gather together in peace", and defines the drums purpose.
A favourite quote of my teacher is ~
The spirit of the drum is something that you feel but cannot put your hands on,
It does something to you from the inside out . . .
It hits people in so many different ways.
But the feeling is one that is satisfying and joyful.
It is a feeling that makes you say to yourself, ‘
I’m glad to be alive today! I’m glad to be part of this world!”
—Babatunde Olatunji

Until next time..........
........thanks for popping by to say 'Hi' *hugs*
